If Tibet is known as a high land of thousand temples, Tulungagung has an unique temple. Local people called that temple as Candi Dadi. The terminology of temple refers a sacred building which was built for a ritual purpose. Candi Dadi was built by Hinduism Majapahit for sacred ritual. That unique temple is on the top of mountain. I visited that temple last year and I would like to share my personal experience visiting Candi Dadi.
In December 2017, I visited Tulungagung which is in East Java Province. I took four hours from Surabaya to Tulungagung by bus. Actually, we can easily go to Candi Dadi due to good infrastructure. I took a half hour from Tulung Agung city to Boyolangu district by motorcycle. Then, I turned left at an intersection near Boyolangu market. I just followed several signs which guided me to reach Candi Dadi. After that, pumping adrenaline begun at the Candi Dadi gate which located at the bottom of Boyolangu mountain.
I should hike that mountain before I reached the temple. Although I found a sign, but I get lost for while due to confusing intersection. Fortunately, I met a local people to direct me to a right pathway. I took almost three hours to reach the temple.
'Awesome' I yelled when I seeing the temple. I saw a strong ancient building. I thought that how did anchestors could bring thousands of stone brick to the top of mountains? As I know that anchestors had limited tools to build a buildings. Then, I walked around the temple to know situation. I felt a quite situation and I clean environment at Candi Dadi. I did not find any vandalism trace. In general, I should appreciate to local goverment as well as local people for their effort to preserve ancient building. Last not least, I hope visitors respect that sanctuary temple by not left any garbage or any vandalism. Before I left that temple, I took picture to remind me to Candi Dadi. See you on the next story. Cheer.
