Memahami Resource Description Access secara Praktis

Istilah  Resources Description Access (RDA) mulai dikenal didunia kepustakawanan Indonesia akhir-akhir ini. Khususnya bagi pustakawan kataloger, perlu diketahui bahwa RDA merupakan suatu konsep yang menitik beratkan pada hubungan entitas dan relasi antara entitas kepengarangan dengan entitas judul dan media pembawanya (carrier) pada suatu metadata.  Konsep antara entitas dan hubungan tersebut relevan sekali dengan dinamika saat ini dimana seorang penulis memiliki publikasi dalam berbagai format. Adopsi konsep entitas dan hubungan tersebut diyakini akan meningkat efektifitas temu balik informasi pada catalog modern. 

Artikel ini tidak membahasa konsep RDA secara mendalam.Namun artikel ini akan menuntun pembaca yang ingin mengenal konsep FRBR-RDA secara praktis.

SIMAK:  Implementasi Requirement Bibliographic Resources (FRBR) dan Dampaknya pada Katalog Modern

Disimulasikan terdapat 5 jenis publikasi dengan beragam format, antara lain:

• Kasus 1 berupa buku elektronik
• Kasus 2 berupa serial
• Kasus 3 berupa DVD/VCD
• Kasus 4 berupa buku cetak
• Kasus 5 berupa prosiding/hasil konferensi

Selanjutnya siapkan lembar input RDA yang terdiri atas 4 kolom, yakni:

• Kolom 1 Uraian (Description words)
• Kolom 2 Kode MARC
• Kolom 3 Indikator
• Kolom 4 Sub Field dari Uraian (Field Contents)

Perhatian ! Terkait konsep hubungan antara entitas dan media pembawanya maka kataloger perlu memberikan perhatian lebih pada Kode MARC 336 (Content Type); 337 (Media Type) dan 338 (Carrier Type);
